Many of us believe having a tight vagina is a good thing. Better sex for him and more pleasure for us, right? Wrong. The truth is, it can be the culprit to a lot of your problems.
Can having a tight vagina be a bad thing?
Yes. A really tight vagina (or pelvic floor muscles) is not something you want, nor does it improve your sex life like we are all led to believe. In fact, relaxed pelvic floor muscles will make sex more pleasurable. Trust me, you do NOT want a tight vagina. You want a STRONG one. There is a BIG difference.
What is the difference between a strong vagina and a tight vagina?
Let me give you an example. If your biceps were really tight, your elbow would be stuck in a flexed (bent) position. This tightness would not allow for full relaxation or elongation of the biceps. Such tightness also affects the strength output of that muscle, causing a weaker contraction when performing a bicep curl. Similarly, if your pelvic floor muscles are really tight, it will produce a weak contraction when performing kegals as well as cause a whole bunch of complications within your body.
What kind of complications can arise from tight pelvic floor muscles?
Knowing how to relax your pelvic floor muscles are just as important as having strong ones. Tight, overactive pelvic floor muscles don’t allow enough lengthening, or relaxation of the muscles. This constant tightness can actually lead to many issues such as:
- urinary urgency/frequency (read more about bladder habits)
- urinary incontinence (read more about stress urinary incontinence)
- difficulty emptying your bladder
- constipation
- pain with sex (read more about dyspareunia)
- pelvic/abdominal/lower back/hip pain
